when I went to save my work, i tried using both the "save" and "save as" features, but both gave me an error message saying "file not found" when I tried to save them.

Hi, Nicole!

Did you save into a folder controlled by Dropbox or a Google Drive? If you see such problem, you should try to save into a different folder. 

If it is related to Dropbox, could you please try this build and report if the problem still persists?

Without more information we cannot tell you what is up: one thing is certain, of course, it's a local issue on your system.
