Steps to reproduce for extraction
-Obtain large enough archive taking about 30 seconds to extract
-Right click the archive from dolphin select "extract here"

Results: No progress dialog, and bouncing extract icon under cursor just stops to animate after a few seconds.

For compression
-Open Dolphin
-Right Click on a directory
-Select Compress --> archive type

Results: No progress dialog

This is horrible when selecting a large directory causing me to revert to command line with verbose output so that I know it isn't frozen or hanging and at least I know its progress.

My suggestion would be to add dialog and data speed (MB/s,GB/s) and time remaining for operation. Perhaps a nice progress bar also.

@Zakhar: I'll mark this as duplicate of bug 391361.

You should open a "generic" request for the frameworks-kio product, without mentioning ark or extraction/compression stuff (because it has nothing to do with Ark).

Something like "Please show a dialog for all KJob notifications" would be better.
