I have to amend my description. There I mistakingly wrote that Discover crashed the moment I clicked on the scroll bar, in order to scroll through the various updates awaiting install. This was not so. Instead Discover crashed (and it just did it a second time) when clicking inside the box in which I was to enter the password needed to start the updating process. Would it be possible to get a backtrace with symbols? If you can provide the information requested in comment #2, please add it.
