Discover isn't a package manager, it's an app store. It doesn't show packages, only pieces of software that have AppStream information. What does `appstreamcli search wayland` show? Maybe the bug here is that plasma should export better appstream information? That certainly couldn't hurt. I'm not sure we can keep people from thinking of Discover as a general purpose "Find all kinds of things to install" app, which means we need to get AppStream information for more of the commonly-installed things (NVIDIA drivers too, perhaps?). You can certainly install all kinds of things (e.g. kate snippets, apps and wallpapers). So from my point of view: yes, plasma should come with proper appstream information and yes, lots of stuff need metadata. Or their own backend, which for drivers specifically seems like it's the way to go. I'm not sure how to turn this bug report into an action item though. Maybe to ship al AppStream file for the Plasma Wayland session with plasma-desktop so packagers can package it? If it was my decision, I'd suggest having an appstream entry for plasma desktop at bulk explaining it's for X11 and Wayland. See https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391822 |
