Description Zakhar 2018-02-28 00:23:37 UTC
Pressing the power button should make a notification. Allowing user to attach a sound or script or whatever else the notification settings manager permits.
Comment 1 Nate Graham 2018-02-28 05:09:50 UTC
BY default, it displays the "Leave" screen, which allows you to choose whether to suspend, reboot, shut down, or log out. Not sure what value is added additionally displaying a notification ("You're looking at the thing you're looking at!").

If I've misunderstood the bug, please re-open, and in the future see https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting#Step_6:_File_a_high-quality_bug_report

kcmshell5 powerdevilglobalconfig

You can configure several notifications, but none for button presses or lid changes.

Please be more specific why a configurable notification is needed, e.g. what is the script is supposed to do?

Idea was to assign audio notifications.
Comment 4 Christoph Feck 2018-03-15 04:13:39 UTC
Wouldn't it make more sense to have a notification when the power status actually changed, e.g. if it starts to hibernate or shutdown?
Comment 5 Zakhar 2018-03-15 04:56:11 UTC
Would be nice to have some sound play when you hit the power button or closed the lid.

Could be easily done but I won't actively work on this, patches welcome.
Comment 7 Sebastian Kügler 2018-03-15 09:50:13 UTC
I'm not sure. The system should go into suspend as quickly as possible, and what use would be a notification when you close the lid? The screen isn't visible then, and in case of suspend, the notification would still be there post-resume, and then we definitely don't want to show it.

I for one don't want my system to play sound on normal events, especially laptops are often used in environments with people around me and I don't want to make noise.

Why exactly would you want to play a sound here?
Comment 8 Nate Graham 2018-03-15 14:45:13 UTC
I agree with Sebastian here. I'm not sure why you would want a notification in response to an action you deliberately initiated that's intended to actually close down the machine.

Can you explain your use case for a notification here?
Comment 9 Zakhar 2018-03-16 02:25:22 UTC
I guess this auxiliary would be only beneficial for users that really enjoy having many customisations. Its no big deal to just close the bug, I honestly would rather have a sound play when I close lid or hit power button. But its nothing critical and Im not a programmer so I won't be able to send any patches altho I would if I did program.

Thanks for understanding!
