Have you also installed Krita 3.x before? I usually see this problem with the configuration for 3.x interferes with the new 4.0. You could try to clear that...or make a backup of it. Also Krita 3.3.3 is installed under "Applications" and Krita 4.0 beta is located on a separate hard drive, if that makes a difference. There is a place that stores shared settings. It is probably there. Clear the kritarc file https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Where_are_the_configuration_files_stored.3F Yes, please check whether resetting the configuration makes a difference.
