This bug affects all KDE4 versions on all Linuxes I use(d) and FreeBSD as well.
So it is not a driver or OS issue.

Together with the Qt developers we had to find out that it is a KDE issue and not a Qt problem.
In addition to what I described there, I noticed this time the bug seemed to appear much earlier after I set the Konsole line buffer in the Konsole profile settings from 1000 to 50000.

This time the bug appeared when there were still 27GB physical memory were free, so it is not due to lack of available system memory.

KDE Plasma 4 has been unsupported and unmaintained for several years. Please move to KDE Plasma 5.

If you can reproduce the issue with KDE Plasma 5, please open a new ticket.
