I can display the ecliptic and change its color with the Preferences > Colors dialog.
However I cannot display the local meridian. I tried to change its color but this didn't help.
Any idea ?

Did you check the "Local Meridian" box under Settings --> Configure KStars --> Guides? 

If yes, please uncheck it and then recheck it again to see if that helps.

I uncheck and recheck the Local Meridian. To no avail.
