Using X11, the logout greeter appears as it should: darkens and overlays the screen.
Using Wayland, the logout greeter appears as a large window titled ksmserver-logout-greeter whose background is completely black. Overlays are definitely possible with kwin-wayland, so why this behavior?

same here with plasma 5.12 beta.
