Krita keeps freezing as soon as I open my project. Sometimes restarting the program works, but recently not even this works. The program will just become unresponsive and unusable.

That's of course not normal. There must be something up with your system -- I would suspect that some 3rdparty security software is the culprit, but if you haven't got anything like that installed, you might want to try to reset Krita's configuration. (https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Resetting_Krita_configuration). 

If the problem persists, can you also tell us:

* which version of Krita you have installed
* add the output of help/system information for bug reports to this bug report
* get a crash log: https://docs.krita.org/Dr._Mingw_debugger
