Whenever I try to take a screenshot with

$ spectacle -r

I have this huge pop-up message RIGHT in the middle of the screen:

"Click anywhere on the screen (including here) to start drawing a selection rectangle, or press Esc to quit"

I have used the tool before! I know what to do!

It would be very nice to have an option somewhere to turn off this pop-up.

Thanks for attention and double thanks if this ever gets fixed.

What's the actual problem? As soon as you start drawing a box, the message disappears.

If you can provide the information requested in comment #1, please add it.

Yes, the message indeed disappears, but until I click somewhere, this message is sort of in the way, especially if I have to start the selection in the middle of the screen. I agree, it is a minor thing, but still, it would be nice to have some command line flag to control this behaviour. Otherwise, awesome utility!

Yes it does; I'm trying to think of a nice way to say that we don't have plans to change this. :)

I understand that it's a bit annoying, but it really does help people get their bearings in the selection mode.

Thanks for the request anyway, and we'll definitely consider future requests!
