kurlrequestertest_gui showing the issue

I have been seeing several KDE widgets with a completion drop down list where that list remains hidden behind what I think is the list's grandparent. This used to work, and I cannot recall exactly when the regression occurred - after a Qt upgrade or after a KF5 upgrade.

It happens in certain editable KComboBox widgets but not in the komboboxtest tool. The only official test tool where I have seen it happening is kurlrequestertest_gui, so I'm reporting it here as that's also where I'm going to start trying to figure out what goes wrong here.

The drop down list is functional otherwise in that the cursor keys can be used to move the selection up and down the list. Choice of widget style is unrelated.

This may be related to making the wrong widget (dialog) modal; I'm seeing something similar with QtCurve's floating config preview window.

a KComboBox showing the issue

this is a KComboBox in a KDevelop dialog (configuration for a cmake-based project); here the QtCurve widget style is being used.
