when I start the program, I get the Loading certificate cache message that never seems to stop.

Andre, this is a different platform than 381910

I had this same issue on windows, and the problem was that there are several lock files in the %HOME%\AppData\Roaming\Gnupg folder that cause Kleopatria to hang while loading the certificate cache.
I corrected this issue by removomg them before starting Kleopatria
Specifically 
gnupg_spawn_agent_sentinel.lock
