I've just tried playing the video file via melt and there i also get the same playback issue. Unuseable slow video playback. If you can provide the information requested in comment #2, please add it. You can download newer Kdenlive versions as an AppImage or Flatpak from https://kdenlive.org/en/download/ With the current ubuntu version 17.12.3 it works without problems.
