Kate doesn't allow drag and drop of file from Windows Explorer. I'm using Windows 10 64bit and this issue has been in Windows port of Kate at least 5 years now also with Windows 7 64 bit. Both 32 bit and 64 bit builds are affected by this issue.

Hmm...

I just tried it with Kate 17.08.1 KF5.38 64bit and dragging a file to Kate does work. Also dragging a directory does work here... I installed Kate with the recently released installer at download.kde.org/stable/kate

Typical. After several years of waiting someone to fix this, and one failed attempt to debug the issue from source by my self, I finally managed to make a bug report just to see, that after 24 hours from it, it's no longer an issue. Excuse me for making this useless bug report.

I'm sure I tried the same Kate build yesterday and the drag 'n drop didn't work. Now that I tried it again, it works...

This bug report can be closed now.

I'm a bit curious how can you have used Kate on Windows for 5 years? The installers I have made only came out about two years ago :) Have you used emerge / kde-windows before? Could the problem be linked to the integration plugin used?

Regards,

When I firts heard of KDE Windows builds, I immediately started to play with it. I can't really remember the actual year, but it was early days when the KDE 4 Windows builds became out. I just love the KDE minesweeper and Kate, which is why I was using it. I've tested the standalone Kate Windows builds one and a half year now just to see if the drag and drop works. It was always the show stopper for adopting the Kate for my everyday use. But it looks like the time has come :)

I can't even begin to guess how deep the drag and drop issue actually was. There are quite a lot of library dependencies in Kate, and I don'r realy know how the KDE libraries, QT and Windows handles the Drag n drop events. All I know that it works in Linux and didn't work in Windowsn earlier.
