I am having trouble using my brushes when I go to paint my arrow instead of becoming a brush tip it vanishes when it comes into the canvas area. Is there a quick fix for this or do I have to uninstall my Krita? I hope not, as I do love this software.

Are you really using Linux and Krita 2.9? If so, update to a newer version. If you're using Windows, check https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Krita_starts_with_a_black_or_blank_canvas_and_nothing_changes_when_you_try_to_draw.2Fshows_a_black_or_blank_screen_on_my_Windows_system_with_an_Intel_GPU and either disable opengl or check out https://krita.org/en/item/angle-and-windows-ink-a-new-test-version-of-krita-for-windows/
