Whilst the general "new" look of kruler is very nice, the removal of the rotation button is sorely missed.

As it is highly probable one would position/size the ruler using the mouse it would be nice to simply click to rotate. (Yes, I know one can use the keyboard).

The Rotate command is also in the context menu, so you do not need to use the keyboard.

Yes, I was aware of that also. :)

Previously it was possible to place the rotate button(s) on the ruler itself.  Thus negating the need to right click to bring up the context menu and select rotate.

Sorry, definitely a backward step in terms of usability... The fewer mouse clicks / keystrokes / whatever, the better.

How often do you rotate vs. close it? If we would clutter the ruler (again) with buttons, then the close button would certainly needed first.

For my own use case, rotate would be used far more frequently than close, I may rotate/move/measure several times before finally closing it. 

I didn't consider the buttons to add "clutter", but again that's personal opinion.

Perhaps rotate could be implemented without the use of a button "cluttering" the ruler.  How about a double click on the ruler to rotate?

You can click with middle mouse button to rotate.
