Happens to me also. With every network I have to write password twice. It always asks for password on separate window, although correct password was provided in the applet.
I noticed this behavior in every Plasma release after the LTS one.

I forgot to add. It is distribution independent. Happened to me on Arch, Manjaro and openSUSE.
