Its always been a long standing annoyance that if I select the option "Jump to First Unread Message", and then navigate to a folder that has no unread messages, you just see the first message in the list - ie it goes nowhere.

It almost seems like a useful option would be "First unread message (if there is one), otherwise the newest message".

This would allow the user to click into a folder, go from the first unread message, read what is required, then go on to the next folder - and essentially come back to where he was before moving off to another folder.

This may include another mixture of "First unread message, else last selected message".

I would be happy with either of the above options - or maybe both - or maybe even a rethink of this paradigm.

Posting as an RFE for discussion.
