I opened Krita today and when i try to use the brush tool i can select it, but when i hover onto the canvas it changes back to the line tool. I've tried to select multiple other tools and the same thing happens. If i hover over the canvas and hit b i can get the brush to work but as soon as i draw a line with it and release it defaults back to the line tool. I've uninstalled krita and re-installed and this is still happening.

Hm... I think we need a bit more information about your setup:

1. Do you use a mouse or a stylus?
2. Do you try to do your selection with a different pointer(so selection with the mouse and drawing the stylus)
3. Did this happen before?

I guess this is the straight line shortcut getting confused. Uninstalling and reinstalling Krita isn't going to help, but you could try to reset your settings:
