Description jonas.bulow 2017-04-11 15:39:23 UTC
Never used Krita before.

Started application.
Created new canvas (cmd+N).

Drag pen on (wacom)tablet.

Nothing happens.

Not the best first impression.

Hi Jonas,

You really need to give more information since, obviously, that works fine on my test macbook pro, otherwise I wouldn't have released the binaries. Which version of OSX are you using? What kind of mac? Which wacom tablet?

OS: macOS 10.12.4
Wacom Intous Pro M
Mac Mini 2012.

I think it's just a bad choice of default settings in Krita not interpreting a defult configurated wacom tablet in a sensible way. The cursor moves but the pen point event does not trigger any drawing.

Painting with the mouse works. Moving the cursor using the wacom tablet works. Once I press down the pen the brush freezes but the cursor continuous to move.

That remains strange -- because with the default wacom configuration for my intuos 3 and the default krita configuration, that works for me. Krita doesn't do anything special, it doesn't even have any settings other than a response curve for tablet events. It uses Qt's wacom support on OSX, which uses OSX's tablet suport, which in turn goes to the wacom driver, when installed.

I've got 10.12 as well, an Intuos Pro 3 and a 15" Macbook Pro 2016. I also have got a mac mini that's from around 2012, but that's currently running linux. I'll reboot it tomorrow and try with a clean user and a clean install of Krita...

But in general, stuff like wacom tablets not being recognized tends to be a local problem, I'm afraid, and it's really hard to figure out workarounds for those if one doesn't have access to the problem machine.

For some reason, the Ink feature in macOS was interfering when running Krita. Never seen the Ink feature before. Disabled Ink and everything works fine.

Ah! That's kinda logical, since that feature probably just eats all tablet events and never passed them on.
