In Windows, zooming in one folder doesn't change the zoom preference system wide. I think this is a better way to manage zooming for certain media orientated folders and keeping others at a default level.

Confirmed. Right now the zoom preference is saved per view mode (e.g. Details view and Icons view can have separate zoom settings), not per folder. It should be.
