There is no way of rotating the desktop easily when using a laptop as a portrait tablet; there needs to be:

1 an easy to use shortcut
2 a widget that can be used to do this
3 an action triggered by the gyro in a tablet.

1 & 2 seem easy, 3 but be more tricky.
