I was not able to reproduce this on Words 3.1.0, I could change fonts successfully. You said "virtually" any font, was this not every font? I'm guessing this bug has already been fixed, I suggest a re-test. However, if this has not been fixed, it would be good to know which fonts you tried. Created attachment 103835 [details] Pasted Crash Reports from Calligra Sheets & Words Respectively. Changing from the default font (Deja Sans) to virtually any other font seems to crash both Words and Sheets immediately. This occurred at least six times with each application. Bug reports attached herewith. I am very new to Neon and Calligra; the version is Alpha 3.0.1 perhaps there is a more stable version for Plasma 5.8.5 but I cannot find any way to downgrade the install.
