valgrind dolphin 2> kde.dolphin.crash.log.txt

Dolphin hangs system when opening folders.

Ran "valgrind dolphin 2> kde.dolphin.crash.log.txt"
See attached.

It is a total system hang, as I cannot get into any other tty and mouse and keyboard does not respond.

That valgrind log is not very helpful. Can you try again running dolphin in gdb? Then type CTRL+C as soon as Dolphin freezes, and type 'bt' to get the backtrace.

I tried gdb and then bt, but dolphin seems to totally freeze system.
Tried ssh from another system, but ssh session seems to freeze.

Wrote logger script to keep syslog active with just a "test" message,
but it stops when system freeze (powered off system at "Jan 11 08:55"
and restarted):

Without a backtrace there is very little we can do. Any chance you have an sshfs mount? I have seen that freeze Dolphin and possibly the whole plasmashell.

I will try to run backtrace periodically. I'm currently using konqueror,
until dolphin works again.
But for now, there is no point to leave bug open.

As for the sshfs - I have none at the moment.

Thanks for your assistance - much appreciated.
I think the KDE project is awesome.

Regards
Chris

Hey @user49b, does this issue still happen with Dolphin 17.12.3? If not, I'd like to close this bug soon.
Comment 7 Julian Steinmann 2018-04-28 09:03:36 UTC
Any updates? It'd be great if we could further investigate this bug, but we need you to test this again with a newer version of Dolphin.

Hi

I re-installed os, and have not had the issue again.

Will be installing Kubuntu 18.04 later today.

Thanks again
Chris
