In each panel show your home directory.
Use Tab to move focus to the left panel.
Press Alt+. to show/hide hidden files 
The focus switches to the right panel immediately - it also shows/hides the hidden files as expected, but the focus switch is annoying

Thanks for reporting, but already fixed in master.
