Description Rafael Linux User 2016-12-28 10:12:14 UTC
I'm usig Plasma on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. When I try to open remote files (ftp/smb) with Krita, it says "File /home/user/ftp://adminweb@10.162.0.27/var/www/img/fondo1.png doesn't exist". However, I can open remote files from GIMP and KDE, so I think it's a Krita issue.

Thank you

Hi Rafael,

Krita doesn't support opening remote files, and unless someone steps up and implements it, it's unlikely we'll ever support it again. We'd need to use kio for supporting remote files and that's a really big and complex dependency. Plus, it gave lots of trouble when it was still possible with 2.9 and earlier. Network drives do work, though.

As a Linux user, in my work team do not use Network Drives, that is more Windows network oriented.

It's really a pity, cause we was recommending Krita over GIMP some time ago (and I even donated to make it better). IMHO, it's difficult to recommend Krita when GIMP make user some task totally transparent, as this case. Even Inkscape (another GTK applications) can work over remote files without any issue.

I wish you consider soon to recover that KIO feature.

Anyway, thank you
