When you close the livepreview before you close the main window, the livepreview will not show up anymore after restarting kile.

Details:
I run KDE neon. I close the livepreview with the [X] in the titlebar of the window.

Solution:
When you close the windows that way, it sets the following value in the kilerc file:
ShowDocumentViewer=false

upon removing that line, the livepreview reappears on the next restart of kile
