dolphin 16.8.3 

If searching for filename "*.pdf" the results also show 

"hello-pdf.doc" or the folder "interestingPDFs"

YOu can limit the search results to files. As for not matching "hello-pdf.doc" with a search for "*.pdf", that seems like it would actually mess some people up (e.g. what if there's a file called file.pdf.gz that you might want to find).
