If compositing is enabled, I can consistently cause Kwin to crash by opening the settings menu for any virtual machine in VirtualBox, changing a setting, and clicking 'OK'. I've tried with several settings (toggle 3D accel, toggle EFI, change monitor count, etc.), it doesn't appear to matter which one is changed. No crash occurs when compositing is disabled.

If KWin crashes you should get a backtrace (an item with a sad face should be added to the systray). Please attach the backtrace, otherwise we cannot investigate.

The backtrace is lacking debug symbols, but it looks like bug #363224
