I can't find a package called 'pavcontrol' did you mean 'pavucontrol'?

I didn't do anything special (pavucontrol is not installed) and my microphone is working in steam, cs:go, mumble, team speak, ... .

My bad the package is called pavucontrol like you said. Pavucontrol is needed for steam to choose the mic, otherwise the only option is PulseAudio default. While the mic test works inside steam, in games like CS:GO the mic doesn't work with that option. Pavucontrol is needed to manually select the microphone within Steam, and that makes the mic work in CS:GO.
