I have noticed from tutorials around the web that Krita opens almost instantaneously on Linux and Windows. I have found that it takes 7/8 seconds to open on OSX. Is there a way to make it faster? Is there something that might be making it start a bit longer?

Sorry, this is not the kind of thing a bug tracker exists for. Startup time depends heavily on your system. On a macbook pro, it's instant, on an old mac mini it takes ages, on some windows systems, it's instant, on others it takes ages. But having this bug in the bug tracker just doesn't help us with development.
