Description Avery Freeman 2016-10-06 18:44:44 UTC
Hi

I had a working copy of KDE Neon 5.7 on my Thinkpad X220 (i5-2410m 16GB ram)

I upgraded the system using apt-get. The screen went blank. now whenever I try to start the computer, I get the KDE Neon 5.8 splash screen, but nothing after that. The system is not hung - keys do not respond, but if I press the power button or CTRL-ALT-DEL combination (maybe just any key?) the splash screen returns and the system reboots.

Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this? I miss KDE.

Thanks
Avery

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn on computer
2. Press key combination or power button
3. Resets

Actual Results:
System booted to splash screen / animation (KDE Neon 5.8 banner)
Screen goes blank
System reboots - wash, rinse, repeat.

Expected Results:
Login screen should appear so I can use my computer :P

Had been using KDE Neon 5.7 for about 2 months with no problems up until now.

I have just updated my system to the latest KDE Neon and I seem to have the same issue.
In my case, after login I got the black screen with the K logo avec the rolling wheel. After a few seconds, the wheel freezes and nothing more happen. I do get a cursor so the computer is not frozen and I can reach other tty.

Did you do sudo apt full-upgrade?
Comment 3 Avery Freeman 2016-10-08 19:30:09 UTC
Hi - Did not do apt-get full-upgrade, just apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

Sounds like we are experiencing the same issue. Did not try getting another tty - thanks for mentioning, will be useful for fixing

Does it work after apt install neon-desktop ?

Do you have nvidia-prime dual graphics?
