May I kindly ask you to try once more with the latest version (16.08.1)? There have been a number of fixes involving the title editor. Also, I would suggest to upgrade MLT (libmlt6) to version 6.2 - MLT bugs were at least partly responsible for crashes during title edits. I hope this helps!
