Description Sergey 2016-07-26 18:55:58 UTC
First of all, I don't like redesign of Kate and changes in Find and Replace button placement/behaviour. But it also became buggy. Search smth with CTRL+F in Kate (See screenshot004.png), input some text to find, then click on button "Search and Replace". And surprise! You'll have to input text again! See screenshot005 below. There were no such bugs in Kate in KDE:4 and there was better overall design too.

Reproducible: Always

That is not true, it was exactly the same in KDE 4. Granted, it is confusing to have two search lines at the same time, but that's since the one is from the editor, and the other one from the plugin... Suggestions for improvements are welcome, even more so patches.

All in all, the described issue is not a bug, therefore, will close for now, sorry.

Suggstion is to leave the same behaviour as it was in KDE-4 in some of the previous versions of either kate or its plugin. Current behaviour is REGRESSION. There were no problems in that respect before upgrade to glitchy Plasm-5 (with a pile of bugs and regressions).

Video how did it look like before:

It was easy there to type CTRL+F, to find smth, then to click on small green button on the right and after click on this small button "down arrow" (instead of big and UGLY "Search and Replace" button in new Kate and Plasma-5) there was Replace field which appeared right after clicking on this small nice button. There were no 2 fields with "Find". And "Replace" filed was easily removable too. As well as "Search and replace dialog" was also easy removable too. Please, move changes back as it was. Current version is unworkable at all.

I am using Kate from master, and it works identical as in KDE 4.14.10 version.

Switching between the "incremental search bar" and the "power search and replace bar" keeps the current find string, both when using the keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+F, Ctrl+R), as well as when clicking the leftmost toolbutton to switch between the modes.

The new toolbutton is no longer a green arrow, but it is neither big (it has the same size as the other toolbuttons), nor ugly (it is just a "configure" icon). I fail to see how it is unworkable. If you like green arrows, use the old Kate version, or change the icon.

Oh, and simply disable the "Search and Replace" plugin, if this confuses you. You probably had it disabled in the KDE 4 version.

Thank you, disabling "Search and Replace" plugin in options solved my issue. IDK why it marked as enabled in Kate options. Everything work as expected now.

Good that it works for you :-) Thanks for letting us know.
