I am using KDE Neon 5.7.0 downloaded within the past few days - two downloads I am using Dolphin 16.04.2 I have the exact same issue. The first time I start dolphin-as-root everything works fine. Afterwards I always get this error message. Created attachment 101222 [details]

Operating Mint 18 KDE on a Toshiba Satellite P55t-B5154, installed just this month, and get same problem. In Dolphin: right-click Actions/Open as Root, input password, and a Dolphin window opens as root then a red bar across top of file window displays "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly." Try using terminal, gksudo dolphin, same result. Sometimes I will get root to work in Dolphin if I try doing so immediately after logging in, but after any appreciable amount of time logged in and I get this error.
