Description Joe 2016-06-27 12:22:52 UTC
Hello. When I used the rectangular and elliptical selection tool, they created the normal "ants marching" outline. Then a big, black, blocky blob dances on the screen before saying that the program crashed and resets. No progress is lost, but that means the selection tools are unusable.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create an image.
2. Choose a selection tool (rectangular or elliptical).
3. Select something on the canvas.

Actual Results:
Black blob appears on the screen for a few seconds before the program crashes.

Expected Results:
It should have just selected what I wanted on the screen and created the "ants marching" outline.

I would like to say that the elliptical tool is fine but the other selection tools create this blob. Thank you.

A black blob sounds a like a problem with the opengl driver. Can you check whether the issue occurs if you disable opengl, and if so, tell us the exact version of your GPU, of your display driver, Windows version and the exact version of Krita?

Hello and thank you for getting back to me.

My graphics card is: NVIDIA G Force 9300M GS.

   I also downloaded the KRITA 3.0 (x86).

I am not sure how to disable opengl driver.

Other than that the program works fine (it has an excellent layering
system).

You can disable OpenGL in the settings under Canvas.

I checked the OpenGL and it says that it is not enabled.

  Should I enable it?

Sorry, I found another option for OpenGL under settings. I disabled it and
it is working now.

  Thanks.

One more question. Does this Krita offer animation or is that something
else.

Thanks again. Also, this is an awesome program.

If you're not seeing the animation features, then you're not using Krita 3.0 -- and if you're seeing black blobs, it's an opengl problem and worth upgrading to 3.0. Check https://docs.krita.org/Animation for more information.

Can you please attach a screenshot of the about box so we can verify which version of Krita you are running?

Sorry for the delay, I was out of town.

Here is my screenshot of Krita.

I do have the animation portion, I just did not activate it on the
Dockers.

Okay, so you've got 3.0 -- now we need to figure out which opengl drivers are giving us trouble. Could you tell me which version you have, and if it's up to date?

It should be up to date since I got it on the main website. I downloaded
the Krita (x86).

Hi Joe,

Can you try to reproduce this bug with the latest version of krita and see if it is still a problem.

thank you
Comment 13 Raghavendra kamath 2018-08-10 04:37:59 UTC
I could not reproduce this bug on my system and there is no reply from the bug reporter for almost a year now.

So due to inactivity I think we can close this bug for now.

@Joe if you can still reproduce this bug in the latest version of Krita then feel free to reopen this bug

thank you
