On gentoo, with the kde overlay, I tried the new kdenlive:  
[ebuild   R   ~] kde-apps/kdenlive-16.04.1:5::gentoo  USE="debug -gles2 -handbook -semantic-desktop -v4l" 0 KiB

Several of the main menu entries are titled "Kein Text" and have almost no contents. Also, the Settings Dialog is missing.

Expected Results:  
The first menu entry might be named "Datei"  or "File" and has a exit menu entry.

May you want to head over to the Kdenlive forum? I don't think that the bug tracker is a good place to discuss distro-specific installation issues. If the Kdenlive forum can't help, maybe the Gentoo forum can help?

I came from  the kdenlive home page to this bug tracker.   Still I do not yet know if (or why) this is a distribution specific issue.  
Currently I try to downgrade the kdenlive and reinstall the necessary packages.

I found something to resolve it.  Did not find the cause, but it did help.
I removed this directory

~/.local/share/kxmlgui5

then kdenlive started regularly, with menus.
