Description apache 2016-06-01 14:06:20 UTC
Does "check for updates" is really an advanced feature that needs to be hidden in menu? I think it is a basic feature for everyday use (when someone doesn't like to be bothered by notifications and prefers to check for updates at his/her convenient time). I wish it can be as button on the main upper panel, next to Discover button. Especially when Discover is used as the only application for package management.

Yes, it's advanced and shouldn't be required. If you like to trigger it often, you can use "Ctrl+R" which is the shortcut, IIRC.

Seriously? An option that is used almost every day on every system, not only Linux, is advance. Wow. It is as if you would say that copy paste with keyboard shortcut is advanced.

Hi,

First there can't be an advanced menu with only one submenu point. So in general I would remove the advanced menu and add there check for updates.

Yes. That's sounds like a good solution Aleix, if you want to keep interface clean and yet don't hide update option too much. Actually in Muon updater it was like that - one click and there it is.

One more thing. When I opened Discover today not from panel widget indicator but from menu I had this button on upper panel telling me that there were no updates but when I used option check for updates it appeared that there were some updates.
My suggestion is: when the program is opened, the button should show information "check for updates" and when clicked and repositories checked only then the information on button should change to "No updates" or "Update". This would make more sense to me. So I suggest one button changing its state and indicating the real state.
After update is made the information should be as it is now that updated successfully but the button should come back to "Check for updates".

Showing that there are no updates just because the program has not check it yet is not showing the real state.
