This is a regression, same as bug 357816 that I filed a few months ago and was resolved.

How can you mark as duplicate of the bug that I filed a few months back when I specifically say that it's a regression?!

The exact same issue is back in the new versions. It was resolved in 5.5.4, but it's not in 5.6.4

I marked it as a duplicate because it's the same issue. It's just broken again with latest NetworkManager as they changed connection type for tun (vpn) connections.

In the future when there's a regression, I should reopen the original bug even if the version has changed?

If it's the same issue then you can reopen it, but it should be now fixed properly and future releases of NetworkManager should not break it again.
