For me, in 16.04 onwards the speed effect is missing. It is present in 15.12.3-1.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install kdenlive 16.04
2. look for speed effect (Motion->Speed)
3. Search for "Speed" also doesn't work

Actual Results:  
Speed affect should be in the list of effects

Expected Results:  
Speed effect should be in the list.

I have so many projects which use this feature, it's really a breaking bug for me. I have to downgrade.

Did you check that you are on latest MLT version? The implementation of the speed effect has been changed and needs a very recent MLT version.

thankyou very very much, this was indeed the problem. Installed mlt from source fixed it. A number of other little issues with the new speed will have to see whether to report.
