Description Salvo "LtWorf" Tomaselli 2016-05-03 06:53:45 UTC
I use a dark theme. The default colour for new emails is blue.

Blue on dark gray is unreadable. Possibly the default colours should be taken from some sort of system settings as well as the background colours.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Alexander Potashev 2016-08-01 16:32:55 UTC
Same problem here with KMail 5.2.3.

other versions:

KDE Frameworks 5.24.0,
Qt 5.6.1 (собрана с версией 5.6.1),
Оконную систему xcb.
Comment 2 Alexander Potashev 2016-08-10 12:41:19 UTC
Another problem with dark theme: when searching for text pattern in an email, the occurrences are highlighted with dark blue which is hard to notice on black background.

Comment 4 Laurent Montel 2016-08-11 06:29:38 UTC
ok it's in composer ok not in viewer.
Comment 5 Laurent Montel 2016-08-11 06:30:50 UTC
selection color is defined in system settings no in kmail. so for this one it's not a kmail problem
Comment 6 Denis Kurz 2017-04-11 19:44:17 UTC
In this case, we should close here. Thank you for your report.
Comment 7 Salvo "LtWorf" Tomaselli 2017-04-12 07:45:44 UTC
This is why I no longer bother to open bugs against kmail.

It's an issue that takes 1 minute to reproduce, you didn't bother to try and then you close it when someone randomly comments something completely unrelated.

I was talking about the colours of important emails, to read emails, quoted text and so on. They are not part of the theme.

Why would anyone care to investigate a bug that was dismissed by the maintainer if the reporter doesn't even care to defend the report? You didn't do so for 8 months, yet you blame me to take an action you didn't speak up against?

Which is the latest version you experienced this with? Can you share a screenshot? My current setup makes it rather hard to even attempt to reproduce.

Try changing colour theme of your desktop from systemsettings.

The issue is that by default kmail uses hardcoded colours to list the emails, so for some themes, they end up unreadable.

Yes, it allows to use custom colours, but it would be better to just use them from the colour theme stead.

I just realized that this bug is a duplicate of Bug 317803, which has received more attention and votes and is already confirmed for version 5.4.0. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No it's not the same issue. I don't even display HTML emails.

The other bug is really not even a bug, just people sending crappy emails setting fgcolor without also setting bgcolor. It's a bad habit, happens a lot.
Comment 13 Denis Kurz 2017-05-20 18:30:53 UTC
Ok, you might be right. Fixing one bug probably wouldn't fix the other: One describes the problem with color schemes, the other with some default css. Sorry for the noise.

Kmail html messages texts bright on bright background.
Comment 15 Andras 2017-08-25 18:40:02 UTC
Same here, some html texts are bright on bright background in Kmail. Debian Stretch, Plasma desktop, Kmail Version 5.2.3, KDE Frameworks 5.28.0, Qt 5.7.1 (built against 5.7.1).
I'm glad I found this thread. After a lot attempt to fix it, it's just very frustrating to realize that nothing will be solve this problem but redevelop Kmail. I mean that's absolutely true that the themes, color schemes or any other visual settings by desktop environments has nothing to do with this problem.
