Description Gerard 2016-04-15 20:48:58 UTC
CPU usage increases a lot (from 0-2% to ~30%) and it keeps high all the time when I open the applications launcher by clicking on the desktop with the mouse.

This is the applications launcher I'm mentioning: http://i.imgur.com/L9fzkGx.png

The problem is not happening using the other menus, like KDE menu in both versions (Classical and default).

I changed the icons to the default, I disabled Kwin, I switched xrender, OpenGL 1.2, 2.0 & 3.0, disabled vsync, I changed the button of the mouse, and I even renamed to ~/.kde folder in order to reset the KDE settings to find the problem. But the bug persists in all this conditions.

The bug doesn't occur using clearlooks, CDE, Plastik or QtCurve. Only in Oxygen.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the Desktop Settings, go to Mouse Actions
2. Select the Applications launcher in one mouse button
3. Now click the configured button in the desktop and check how the CPU usage increases. Navigate through the menus, all the menus, and the CPU usage will increase even more.

Actual Results:
CPU usage increased a lot and it stays high until I reset the computer. See the screenshot attached: http://i.imgur.com/b8jTBGa.png

Expected Results:
CPU usage should decrease to normal values after opening the menu, or at least, after closing it. CPU usage gets stuck in high values when it shouldn't.

I'm using KDE 4.13.3 (this version was not in the list).

For me, I can stop using that menu and it's not a big problem. I use Krunner most of times and I like it. But knowing there's a bug I wanted to notify you.

I was not sure if to publish that bug in Oxygen section or plasma4. I decided to publish it here because it's an option from the plasma settings. There's a correlation between this bug and Oxygen, but that doesn't mean there's causality.

This report belongs to Plasma 4. Is it still relevant in Plasma 5?

Hello! Plasma 4 was replaced by Plasma 5 four years ago by the KDE community. In that time we have made great strides in stability and functionality. We are closing all Plasma 4 bugs as most of them are no longer applicable to the new frameworks Plasma 5 is built upon. If you could, please re-test with the latest version of Plasma 5, and submit a new bug to "plasmashell" if you continue to have an issue. Thank you!

Yes, it's ok if you close this bug.

It still persists on my parents computer, under Ubuntu 14.04. However it's not a problem, because here in my home I switched my computers to i3wm under Debian 9. Not because of bugs --actually, i3wm also has bugs--, it's because I get used to minimalistic Window Managers.

If I have a moment to test Plasma 5 and reproduce this bug, I will report it.

I follow your job and you are doing things very well. I enjoyed a lot with KDE4. Keep up the good work!

Regards.
