Sentry Crash Report:

Description Kees Bergwerf 2016-04-11 13:22:09 UTC
When I change the default identity, I expect that it is also changed in all folders where at the folder properties
[x] use default identity
is marked.
But that identity is never changed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. change default identity in the kmail2 settings
2.
3.

Actual Results:
In the kmail2 settings, the default identity is changed, but
NOT in the mail folders.

Expected Results:
That the default identity is changed in all folders where
[x] use default identity
is marked.

Using kmail2 5.1.3
Comment 1 Kees Bergwerf 2016-04-25 08:12:50 UTC
It is not fixed in kmail 5.2.0 (kdepim 6.4.0)
Comment 2 Laurent Montel 2016-04-25 09:08:32 UTC
What do you change ?
Default type identity ?
Comment 3 Kees Bergwerf 2016-04-25 10:03:31 UTC
In the settings: identities
There I have 5 identities and one of them is the default.

In all folders is a setting: use default identity
When marked, the identity below is greyed out. When this is not the default identity, it is still used when I am in this folder and I start a new email message and that is wrong because I marked [x]use default identity. That is: do not use the identity below.

When I change my default identity in the settings, the default identity in the folders is not changed. Okay I was wrong in calling this the default identity because it is the identity used fot this folder and perhaps that should not be changed, but then the default identity must be used and it is not.
When I create a new folder, in the settings of that folder my default identity is NOT setup.
Comment 4 Laurent Montel 2016-04-26 06:01:55 UTC
We don't store default setting info in each folder
we store when it's different from default
=> if you use "default" identity by default in folder when we change it will change.

So perhaps I didn't understand the bug.
Comment 5 Kees Bergwerf 2016-04-26 16:35:47 UTC
Laurent you are right and I made a mistake. Changing the default identity does of course not change the identity that is setup in a folder.
But I will try to explain what is going wrong.

I have kees@bergwerf.com as my default identity setup in the kmail setup.
The next identity is my gmail address.

Now there is a folder named X
When I look at the properties of folder X:

[X] use default identity
idendity sender: [GMail (greyed out) ]

When I am looking at messages in that folder and I press the new mail button, a new email message is started and in the header I can see:

identity: GMail
<gmail address>

That gmail address is greyed out in the folder properties. My default Bergwerf identity should be used but it is not.

Ok, new properties:

[ ] use default identity
identity: Bergwerf

When I start a new messages, the header says:

identity: Bergwerf
<bergwerf.com address>

Ok, that is what I expected.

As soon as I mark the use default identity, the settings are changed into:

[X] use default identity
identity: [GMail (greyed out) ]

And starting a new message will use the gmail addres again.

Is this the expected behaviour?
Comment 6 Morten Lind 2018-02-12 13:47:03 UTC
I can confirm this as a bug or unexpected behaviour in Kmail 5.6.3 on Debian i386.
Comment 7 Kees Bergwerf 2018-02-12 14:34:26 UTC
in 5.7.2 the problem is not there anymore.
Comment 8 Kees Bergwerf 2018-02-12 14:51:51 UTC
well I think it still isn't solved but I have edited the folder properties of a lot of folders, so there the problem is not visible :-)
When I change the default identity in the kmail settings, it has no effect in the folders. In the folder-properties, this default ID is put on top but when selecting 'use default ID', the identity that is used, is the ID that is on top in the kmail settings.
I don't waste too much time on it. Select the desired ID in the folder properties.
