Description timcesq 2016-04-01 21:59:47 UTC
Below, in Additional Informaton, is the error report generated by the Crash Reporting Assistant. I could not make it send mu report, because, apparently "version 4.11.11 is not active".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to Desktop Effects - System Settings
2. Change Compositing Type to OpenGL 2.0

Actual Results:
"Kwin crashed"

Expected Results:
Not a crash, I guess.

Application: kwin (4.11.11)
KDE Platform Version: 4.14.2
Qt Version: 4.8.6
Operating System: Linux 3.19.0-32-generic x86_64
Distribution: Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

Attempting to change the 'Compositing Effects' option to 'OpenGL 2.0" under Desktop Effects - System Settings.
After the crash, the Desktop Effects window show a bar which says "4 desktop effects could not be loaded". The details say that the Blur, Cover Switch, Desktop Cube and Startup Feedback all require OpenGL.

Possible duplicate of 320000. However, 320000 is supposed to be fixed.
Comment 2 Thomas Lübking 2016-04-01 22:18:29 UTC
Yes, is duplicate.

Bug #320000 is *not* resolved as "fixed" but as "upstream", ie. it's clearly a bug in the VBox GL driver, ie. oracles problem. There's nothing we could do to prevent/fix this crash.

But "width=1463, height=968" means it's not because of some texture size limitation (2048)
