When sending an email or any type of message through a textbox (ie to /. or whatever) large messages are not sent.  Instead some time after pressing submit I am told that the connection has timed out.  The cog never even starts rotating; a trafficmeter tells me that after an initial spurt of traffic there is nothing.  Shorter messages are sent through; I do not know the cutoff.
