When I enter a older date  say today is 02/16/2016 and i type in a date from last year or older to record older records. it turns the date RED and tells me i can not enter a older date the todays date. How do I fix this so i can enter older dates?

Today's date is not important.  You cannot enter a transaction with a date prior to the opening date of the account.  If you edit the account, you can set the opening date to a date prior to any transaction you want to enter for that account.
