Description Stanley 2016-02-04 19:51:08 UTC
I can run Krita 2.8 and older, it runs perfectly fine

If I install Krita 2.9 any version, Krita runs however nothing is displayed on screen. I can see Krita running in the task manager.

I have tried both 32 and 64 bit versions. I have verified that Krita install file is working by installing it on a different system. I have tried a different video card, however the result is the same. Krita runs in task manager but nothing displays on the screen. If I install the 2.8 versions, they run just fine.

My system is a windows 10 x64 with 8GB memory and ssd as a boot, with a raid 10 as the data drive.

it is a amd 6 core processor 3.6Ghz

any help would be great

Stan...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install Krita 2.9
2.run first time, nothing displays on screen
3.task manager show krita running and using memory and cpu

Actual Results:
nothing on the screen, with Krita running in the background, can see the process in task manager...

Expected Results:
Program would open

8 GB memory
6 core 3.6 GHz processor
Nvidia Geforce video card

Does this also happen with 3.0 alpha? (you can get it in the news posts)

And do you have any weird software like sandboxie or other "security" software installed on that system?

Yes it does with 3.0 alpha, exactly the same. I run it, nothing happens, but I can see it running in task manager

No weird antivirus or sandboxie running on that system. Only has windows defender. I even disabled defender with no change...!

Hm... There simply must be something different between those two systems you're talking about, something that explains the issue. It's not something we can 'fix' in Krita, though, for that it should be more generally reproducible. You could try another Qt5/Kf5 application like Kate (http://kate-editor.org/2014/11/30/kate5-on-windows/) perhaps; if that shows the same behaviour the issue is likely an interaction between Qt and your Windows system, if not, something else is going on.

not sure where you get the second system from...?!?!??!

I can install old version of krita 2.8 or earlier - it works

I install any version 2.9 or later - it does not work...

hope this clears up any confusion...

os is windows 10 x64
Comment 7 Stanley 2016-02-08 17:23:47 UTC
btw what is Qt5/Kf5????
Comment 8 Stanley 2016-02-08 17:49:49 UTC
I have installed Kate, with no issues...!

For some reason again, it appears that Krita 2.9 or later... is running as a "Background Process" rather than an "App" in windows...

is there anyway to fix this???

I don't know; this is something that is only happening on your system. As for the second system, you said "I have verified that Krita install file is working by installing it on a different system".

I'm sorry, this must really be a local issue. Maybe one of the 3.0 builds work better for you?
