Personally, I find the use of the term ‘label’ and ‘tag’ used for two very different features in digiKam confusing. The two words can be used for exactly the same thing in English (though there are also some differences in meaning). See, for example, the following image searches.

https://www.google.no/search?tbm=isch&q=label
https://www.google.no/search?tbm=isch&q=tag

‘Tags’ is fine, and used with basically the same meaning in other KDE applications and on the Web. But ‘Labels’ are easily confused with ‘Tags’. I propose changing ‘Labels’ to ‘Categories’. It’s different enough to not be confused with tags, and it’s (sort of) natural that an image can only belong to *one* ‘colour’ category, *one* ‘pick’ category or *one* ‘rating’ category.

Reproducible: Always

Labels are tags, technically in digiKam core database, but dedicated for specific tasks.

- Color Labels to mark images with customized colored mark in workflow.
- Pick Labels to mark wanted images with a flag while sorting.
- Rating to mark images with stars after sorting.

Tags are text annotation, not a graphical mark.

LightRoom (and also other pro photo tools) use also "Labels" terms about graphical marks to apply on images, and "Tags" about text annotations.
