I have noticed, that i often have several mails marked as read on the imap server are marked as unread in akonadi or the other way round. (verified over akonadi console, not only in kmail)  Sometimes even complete directories get marked unread. 

Pressing F5 to update the folder does not resolve the situation in both cases. Also akonadictl fsck and vaccuum do not resolve the issue.  The only workaround i have found so far is do delete the akonadi cache in akonadiconsole and re-sync the folder afterward.

This bug occurred since the migration to the KF5 version of akonadi. It was not present in KDE4. 

Maybe this bug is also related to Bug 355966, which is causing my imap resource to crash every few hours or so.
